The Mes Morning News Anchors, Alyssa Johnson and Luciano Zottoli, interviewed Dr. Sue Burgess, Superintendent of Dare County Schools, and Mrs. Bea Basnight, Board of Education Member, about their love of reading on the MES Morning News Show. Dr. Burgess described how important reading was to her and showed the students copies of two favorites, Nancy Drew and The Louisiana Purchase. Dr. Burgess read an excerpt of The Louisiana Purchase and called the students
’ attention to how our country has grown and changed since the early 1800’s. Mrs. Basnight spoke fondly of reading biographies of famous women such as Martha Washington and Clara Barton. She shared a passage from her personal favorite, Old Yeller, complete with the characters’ country twang. Alyssa and Luciano concluded the interview with their thanks and a promise to promote literacy at MES.
